NBA Top Draft Pick’s Security Strangled Britney Spears, Player Claims He Was Gripped

Wembanyama said he never saw Spears and that he was never told that she had grabbed him until hours later.

Details of the incident, which happened Wednesday night outside a casino restaurant, were originally made public by TMZ. According to TMZ, Spears was trying to enter a restaurant with a party of four for dinner when she “was swarmed by fans as she entered the casino.” According to TMZ, Spears tapped Wembanyama on the shoulder and ended up getting hit in the face and had her glasses knocked off. This is identical to Spears’ description of the altercation.

“I didn’t know for a couple of hours, but when I came back to the hotel… I thought it was no big deal, and then security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears,” said Wembanyama. “At first, I thought you had to be kidding, but it turned out to be Britney Spears. Never did I see her face. I simply continued going straight.

Before Thursday, he was unaware that the circumstance had made news.

The Spurs’ game against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night in Las Vegas will mark Wembanyama’s NBA Summer League debut. On Wednesday night at the Aria, he signed a few autographs for fans, and on Thursday morning, as he arrived at a nearby high school to practice with the Spurs, he did the same for a few curious observers.
