Victor Wembanyama, a rookie with the San Antonio Spurs, said that Britney Spears grabbed him behind as he entered a restaurant at a Las Vegas resort.
Victor Wembanyama, a rookie with the San Antonio Spurs, said on Thursday that he thinks Britney Spears grabbed him from behind as he entered a restaurant at a Las Vegas casino and that the security detail he was with shooed the pop singer away.
Wembanyama said he never saw Spears and that he was never told that she had grabbed him until hours later.
The incident was described as “super embarrassing” by Spears, who reported it to Las Vegas police. She also denied grasping Wembanyama, stating she just “tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.”
She said she had seen him earlier in the evening and “decided to approach him and congratulate him on his success.” The No. 1 choice in this year’s NBA draft is a 7-foot-3 French phenom who is entering the NBA with as much praise as anybody since LeBron James 20 years ago.
“His security then backhanded me in the face in front of a crowd without turning around,” Spears recalled. I was almost knocked over, and it nearly knocked my spectacles off my face.
There was an incident at the Aria Resort & Casino, according to police, but they did not provide any other information.
Attorney Mathew Rosengart for Spears declined to comment, citing the ongoing police inquiry.
Wembanyama claimed that when he entered the restaurant, security told him not to pause for anybody, because that doing so may spark a commotion and allow a throng to gather.
Wembanyama said that “something did happen, sort of, when I was walking with some security from the team to some restaurant.” “In the hall, we were. People were calling (at) me plainly since there were so many of them there. One individual called me, but we had already spoken with security.
I was unable to stop. “That person grabbed me from behind while calling out, ‘Sir, sir,'” Wembanyama added. “I wasn’t stopping and was walking straight, so I didn’t see what happened. The individual who did it grabbed me from behind, not from my shoulder. I just knew that she was forced away by security. Security shoved her away, but I’m not sure how hard. I entered without stopping to look so I could eat a wonderful supper.
Even that night, according to Spears’ social media posts, she was surrounded by people, but her “security team didn’t hit any of them.”
Details of the incident, which happened Wednesday night outside a casino restaurant, were originally made public by TMZ. According to TMZ, Spears was trying to enter a restaurant with a party of four for dinner when she “was swarmed by fans as she entered the casino.” According to TMZ, Spears tapped Wembanyama on the shoulder and ended up getting hit in the face and had her glasses knocked off. This is identical to Spears’ description of the altercation.
“I didn’t know for a couple of hours, but when I came back to the hotel… I thought it was no big deal, and then security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears,” said Wembanyama. “At first, I thought you had to be kidding, but it turned out to be Britney Spears. Never did I see her face. I simply continued going straight.
Before Thursday, he was unaware that the circumstance had made news.
“Obviously, I watched the news this morning. I received a few phone calls when I woke up, Wembanyama recalled.
The Spurs’ game against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night in Las Vegas will mark Wembanyama’s NBA Summer League debut. On Wednesday night at the Aria, he signed a few autographs for fans, and on Thursday morning, as he arrived at a nearby high school to practice with the Spurs, he did the same for a few curious observers.
